This is just a short story I challenged myself to come up with and write all in one sitting o.o its not proof read very well and I don't expect it to be amazing..but I hope it has some sort of entertainment value. I like to call it a nice writing exercise to stretch out the creativity in my mind
Drip....drip.....drip...
Drip....drip.....drip....
The dripping of water echoed about the walls...A dim light seeping into the world of darkness around her as her eyelids lifted. There was a warmth coming from the light, a very comfortable warmth. Everything else felt damp.
Her hand touched her arm, she remembered it was hurt when she tried to run. When she tried to run...
Cindy bolted upright now as she recalled the monsters chasing her..their snarls...the demons that had chased her from her car..why didn't she just get in the car?! It didn't matter...where had they taken her. Her eyes glanced to the light now, it was a heat lamp. Her hands moved to feel beneath her...it was damp, something was dripping all around her from above and the smell began to assault her senses. As she moved to sit up on the edge of what she determined to be a bunk bed, her feet touched the frigid floor and recoiled almost instantly. How did she not notice she was naked? Oh god she thought..did they..touch me?
She didn't feel 'wrong' in any way, they couldn't have raped her. Running a hand through her black hair she sighed, looking around for her clothes only to find them in shreds upon the floor. That's when her eyes seen the water in the light...memories hit her like an avalanche. The demons...the creatures came to her...they wanted to touch her..to hurt her. Cindy threw up in her mouth, barely keeping her composure as she remember in the flurry of struggling...it made sense now as did the iron smell in the air.
One of the demons lay on the top bunk somehow, bled out from four fatal stab wounds, the other by her shredded clothes with the pocket knife still lodge in his eye socket. Her eyes panned down her front where the blood still remained. Cindy looked at the gash on her arm and determined it couldn't have bled that much, this was her doing. Cindy couldn't stand the sight of blood let alone death, this was just too much.
Her hands trembled as the tears began. Why her?! What did these...things..want with her?! Their twisted corpses haunted her sight no matter how tightly she shut her eyes.
"Hey! You're awake!" Came a voice. Cindy's gaze locked onto the source, a girl standing in the doorway to the room with a knife in hand as well. Instantly Cindy leaped up and rushed towards the other end of the room..no way out.
"Leave me alone!! Get away! P-Please! Just leave me!" Cindy pleaded.
The other girl put a finger to her lips and nervously glanced around. Stepping into the room and carefully stepping over the other corpse.
"Shhh shhh shhhhhhhh! You'll bring more of the creatures here...are you okay?"
"W-Who are you?!"
"My name is Tara, I got taken just like you...Cindy we met an hour ago...are you okay? Don't you remember me?"
Cindy tried to think, tried to remember but couldn't find any memory of this girl..no...that's right. Tara helped her, she could have never killed anyone...or anything...Tara rushed in and helped her. Cindy remembered the sight of all the blood..the deathly screams the monsters made when they died, it was awful! Cindy nodded, feeling a little safer with Tara around now.
"I-I fainted...you...you saved me..."
Tara smiled and wiped her bloodied knife off on one of the corpses before throwing Cindy a change of clothes. Robes of some sort that the monsters wore. Cindy was hesitant to change into them but decided they were better than running around naked.
Once she had finished changing Tara crept out the door and glanced down the hall first right, then slowly left. Quietly she motioned for Cindy to follow, her voice down to a whisper.
"Any more of those fuckers gets close and I'll gut them too..fucking abominations..." Tara spat in a harsh whisper.
Cindy glanced around at the halls..all stone and the air was so stale and cold here...they had to be underground. Tapping Tara on the shoulder she whispered back.
"Where are we? W-Where did they take us?"
Tara could only shrug as they walked the strange halls. Rooms leading off to the left and right, junction after junction..this labyrinth refused to show them an exit. Just ahead Tara stopped, grabbing onto the white robe that Cindy wore now as well and forcing her to stop just behind her.
"Shit..more of them and I'm sure the exit is that way. Heh...they deserve to die for what they did to us.."
"Tara no! We can go around...m-maybe they can't tell us apart from a distance."
"Fuck that..they were going to rape and kill you..that's fucking sick. Monsters like that need to die..what's a few more?" Tara said a little to loudly, one of the monsters perking up now and waving them down. First a walk...then a jog...soon it was in full sprint at them with another in tow.
"Come on Cindy!" Tara screamed and grabbed a nearby cabinet. With a loud yell, Tara managed to tip it over before grabbing Cindy's arm and dragging her along back the way they had come to try the other halls. This wouldn't slow the monsters for long. Tears streamed down Cindy's face as she looked back at the snarling beasts.
A loud noise began to blare overhead, an alarm of some sorts. Tara began to swear under her breath as she lead Cindy down random hallways and even up two flights of stairs. Just as the girls seemed to be out of the fray, a large hand caught Cindy's arm and pulled her back and out of Tara's grip. Wrestling with her to the ground, the beast snarled at her, ready to make the killing blow.
Everything went quiet..like that moment as your life flashes before your eyes. Everything was still. This was the end Cindy thought..why did it have to be like this? Well, this wasn't the case after all as the loudest noise she had ever heard jolted her from the dream state.
A gun had gone off into the monster's back, collapsing the monstrosity on top of her. As Cindy's eyes panned over to Tara, there she stood with a pistol in hand and a smile on her face.
"Fucking demons!" Tara screamed as she opened fire on another one that had come running around the corner. Two rounds went off..one piercing his skull. Instantly Cindy felt since and began to vomit as she crawled out from under the fresh corpse.
"Cindy, we have to stop this...we can't let them do this to others..they have others..they've turned them and twisted them...they make them suffer!! I have an idea! Come on!"
Cindy nodded, she agreed. As she moved to follow, a strange white dust fell on her face from the ceiling. Glancing up she could see a strange hole where it came from..like a foam or plastic..maybe cardboard. Wiping it away she quickly ran after Tara who was already hard at work. Pipes? Where had Tara led her....and how did Tara know how to find this...?
"Tara....w-what are you doing?"
"Ending the suffering of others and killing ALL these fuckers..." Tara said with a loud grunt as she continued to twist one of the valves. It was some sort of utility room..but for where? Where were they? Cindy pondered the question, glancing around as Tara became flustered and gave up on her idea.
"Plan B" Tara stated confidently as she spotted the oxygen tanks. Cindy realized she was trying to set the gas main on fire and gasped. Cindy tried to say don't..stop...we shouldn't...but Tara's words rang true in her head over and over. With a nod she helped her start a fire and quickly made their escape from the utility room.
Within minutes there was an explosion! It worked! Freedom was in sight, A monster leaped out at them as they made for the final door to freedom! The final round in the weapon rang out and put the demon down for good. It came to a skidding halt just beside the exit. As the doors burst open and the two girls came sprinting out, smoke would begin to trickle out of it..they had done it!
Gasping for breath she inhaled sharply..a breath of much needed fresh air. Glorious! Soon after police cars began to arrive on the scene, the sound of a fire engine coming. She was in the city still..but where was she?!
Turning, Cindy glanced at the large white building, the large sign reading: "St Cathrine's Hospital"
................
Cindy whipped around to the sound of the police surrounding her. Shouts and cries for her to put her weapon down. What weapon? Turning her gaze to her hand she seen the gun...Tara's gun....Tara had done all this and blamed her? Tara did....Tara....
The memories flooded back as she looked down at what she wore...a doctor's lab coat...the bloodied name tag of one of the hospital staff upon it...
The gash in her arm when they tried to sedate her and was cut by the needle..The two men in her room...she tried to remember. That was a mistake.
They say that ignorance is bliss...in some cases that just might be true.
As the event replayed in her thoughts...the stone walls turned to hospital corridors...the knife in the monster's eye to a syringe...the monsters all to nurses and doctors...and the security officer and the gun...the hole in the ceiling means the bullet went up...shot from below...the screams she heard before...those couldn't be fake?
She remembered the sign..her room was near the maternity ward...children's cries..the fire! Cindy came back to reality as the police continued to raise weapons and scream at her to drop the weapon and put her hands on her head.
No! This wasn't true! It wasn't true! This wasn't happening! Cindy knew she would never do something like that...those were monsters! Cindy began to cry as she lowered the gun, dropping it as it was out of bullets anyways. Slowly she got on her knees and put her hands to her head.
Within seconds the cities finest had her pinned and cuffed. Just as the press arrived the police took her away in the back of a car to be questioned and incarcerated. Cindy was simply catatonic over the atrocities she had just committed..they were going to lock her up for the rest of her life now...but why? How was all this possible...
Moving Cindy down the back halls of the police station where the press couldn't get at her, they sat her down in an interrogation room with one of the detectives. The man couldn't believe his ears when he had heard this woman had done so much damage..a terrorist in his eyes like none other. Upon entering the room he sat down across from Cindy, the woman didn't want to talk as he asked her question after question.
Cindy continued to drown the man out it seemed as she just squirmed in her seat, shaking slightly. The man sighed and moved over to her, trying to shake her a bit.
"Cindy! Are you listening to me?! Snap out of it! Cindy!"
Identity is merely a concept..when we can't accept who we are, we invent a new persona for ourselves..sometimes several. When we can't deal with the pain of reality anymore..like a dire sickness...or...the loss of your unborn child. Sometimes even a C-section can't save them..sometimes these things happen and a still birth occurs...Sometimes we begin to hate or loathe the things in life that arn't fair...things we can't control. Cindy couldn't accept the loss of her child..it was the hospitals fault..they killed her baby..they took away her baby! Cindy was too weak to do anything..but Tara was always there to help....
Cindy glanced up at the detective slowly, letting the syringe she had grabbed earlier fall into her fingers from her sleeve. A smile formed at her bloody lips as she stared into the monster's eyes.
"Who's Cindy...?"
Drip....drip.....drip...
